High speed rail food supply needs to break monopoly rather than Mantou

At present, high-speed rail passengers have two problems with their meals. One is that boxed meals are generally too expensive, and the other is that the food is too unappetizing. Due to the monopoly mode of the railway's catering system and the lack of sufficient market competition, not only do these problems exist in high-speed trains, but also in other schedules. Moreover, the prices of other products sold on the high-speed rail are also slightly higher than the market prices, such as beverages, instant noodles, etc. Many passengers are unwilling to eat boxed meals on the train or purchase goods sold on the train, preferring to carry convenient food on their own.

Trains belong to enclosed spaces, forming a closed sales market. Passengers can only passively purchase boxed meals and other goods sold on the train because they have no other choice. Moreover, the passenger flow is high, with many passengers boarding and alighting on each trip, which increases the sales opportunities for trains. If the sales strategy is appropriate, the railway system can earn more money by selling goods. However, the current sales strategy is actually killing the chicken to lay the eggs, providing passengers with a poor experience. Many people, after eating a train box meal once, do not want to eat it again.

It can be seen that even if low-cost food such as Mantou and steamed stuffed buns are added in the future, the supply of varieties will only be increased, but the problem of inferior quality and high price will not be fundamentally solved. Therefore, China Railway Corporation should be brave enough to break the monopoly of food supply, publicly tender suppliers to the society, have multiple suppliers supply food at the same time, encourage market competition, and play the role of the survival of the fittest mechanism, so as to promote suppliers to provide high-quality and affordable food, bring more choices to passengers, and improve the taste and quality of food supply in the railway system.
